A woman who savagely killed her mother-in-law in Dawson Creek in 2016 is facing more charges.

Candace Shearer is facing charges of assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, in connection with an incident that allegedly happened on February 10, 2025.

Shearer was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Anna Sheppard. The 66-year-old was found dead in the bathroom of her home after being stable multiple times.

Shearer admitted to the crime but said she suffered from a mental disorder. The judge noted she that expressed little responsibility for the killing, instead painting herself as the victim.

She was acquitted of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 337 days in jail for manslaughter, after being given credit for time served.

“I have reservations with respect to the depth and quality to Ms. Shearer’s remorse. She has some history of violence and volatility in her relationships and does not manage her anger well.” said the judge in case.

Shearer was before a judge on May 12th. She was released from police custody pending her next court appearance which is scheduled for June 24th.
