Softball BC has announced the 2025 Hall of Fame Class Thursday and an umpire from Dawson Creek is among the inductees.

Kelly Hunter became the seventh official to be named to the Softball BC Hall of fame. The honor adds to an already remarkable career that she built, following her motto, “Dream it, believe in it, and then go achieve it.”

Softball BC says Hunter quickly established herself as a standout umpire in the field. She umpired in many Canadian and international tournaments throughout her career.

Hunter earned her Level 5 designation at the 2000 Women’s Canadian Championship. She was also selected to officiate the 2003 Junior Women’s World Championship, where she was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal Plate assignment.

Hunter’s outstanding work led to her becoming the second British Columbian ever to officiate at the Olympics Games. She was selected to be the third base umpire for the Gold Medal Game between Australia and the USA, a contest that ended 5-1 in favor the Americans.

Softball BC says Hunter has played a vital role in developing the next generation of officials. Hunter served as the District Umpire-in-Chief for Softball BC in District 11, and helped grow the umpire program in Kamloops.

Hunter also had an impact in the baseball officiating world, where she umpired multiple national and world championships.

The other 2025 inductees in the Softball BC Hall of Fame are athletes Erin White and Kristy Odamura, and coach Kelly McGiffin. On Friday, a ceremony will take place at Softball City in Surrey to officially introduce the new inductees.
