Wildfire Service rescinds all remaining open fire bans across Northeast BC

The BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the Category 2 and 3 open fire bans that were in place for Northeast BC.

The Category 2 and 3 bans have been rescinded for the Fort St. John Fire Zone, Dawson Creek Fire Zone, and Fort Nelson Fire Zone (Peace Forest District and Fort Nelson Forest District).

The Category 1 campfire ban in place for the Prince George Fire Centre was rescinded for the region last week.

The following activities and use of the following equipment, materials and substances are also now allowed in the Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson Fire Zones:

  • Fireworks, including firecrackers
  • Sky Lanterns
  • Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description
  • Binary exploding targets

A Category 2 open fire refers to any fire that burns:

  • Material in one pile not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
  • Material concurrently in 2 piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
  • Stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares (2,000 square metres)

A Category 3 open fire refers to any fire that burns:

  • Material concurrently in 3 or more piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
  • Material in one or more piles, each exceeding 2 metres in height or 3 metres in width
  • One or more windrows, not exceeding 200 metres in length or 15 metres in width
  • Stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares (2,000 square metres)
