High winds and dry conditions on Thursday, has caused the Pocket Knife Creek Wildfire to start burning out control once again.

The wildfire is burning east of the Redfern Kelly Provincial Park and has exploded to 2,500 hectares in size. It was discovered on May 17th, less than 20 kilometres northwest of Buckinghorse River.

The fire was originally brought under control on May 27 but hot temperatures and high winds on Thursday, fanned the flames.

“It is being described as a highly vigorous surface fire and the situation is volatile,” said Jeromy Corrigan, an Information Officer with the BC Wildfire Service.

Corrigan said the good news is that more personnel will be heading to the scene in the coming days and the fire is no longer burning towards Highway 97.

The fire is one of 60 burning across BC, most of which are in Northeast BC.
