A wildfire is burning out of control near Highway 97 east of Chetwynd. The Sundance Lake Wildfire fire is burning 13 kilometres from of the community.
The fire was discovered on Wednesday night and has grown to 40 hectares in size. It’s s thought to be human caused.
Five initial attack crews from the BC Wildfire Service are fighting the fire with the help of helicopters in the air.
Those traveling along Highway 97 may continue to see smoke within the fire perimeter, however, smoke coming from green, unburned areas or outside the known perimeter should be reported immediately by calling 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cellphone.
Motorists are being reminded to check DriveBC for highway closures.
