FORT ST. JOHN, B.C - A wildfire burning near a remote wilderness resort in Northern B.C.’s Northern Rocky Mountains Park is no longer expected to spread beyond its current boundaries.

The fire was discovered Tuesday near the Muskwa River and had grown to approximately 21 hectares.

The blaze is burning near the Elisi Spa & Wilderness Resort, about 43 kilometres northwest of Trutch.

The BC Wildfire Service had initially classified the fire as out of control, but the agency now expects it to remain within its current perimeter based on fuel conditions, weather and available firefighting resources.

The suspected cause of the wildfire is listed as human activity.

The fire is burning near the resort, which is currently closed for the season, according to the property’s owner.

The owner said BC Wildfire Service officials advised that they would continue monitoring the situation.
