Well-known criminal from Dawson Creek facing slew of new drugs and weapons charges

A well-known criminal is facing a slew of new charges after being arrested in Grande Prairie.

Tanner Murray and two other people were arrested after police allege, the car they were driving waa spotted with stolen license plates.

Police attempted a traffic stop involving a Chevrolet Cruze. The vehicle allegedly fled the scene but was later spotted parked at a hotel.

Investigators say the occupants got out of the vehicle and ran into a room in a neighboring motel while carrying a guitar case.

After the suspects surrendered, police say they noticed firearms while sweeping the hotel room. Three individuals, one being a youth, were arrested. Police say that Shawna Elizabeth Capot was identified as a fourth suspect and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Police say as a result of the search warrant; the following items were seized:

  • 54.4 grams of cocaine
  • 73.2 grams methamphetamines
  • 28.02 grams of fentanyl
  • 29 Oxy pills
  • A loaded handgun
  • A stolen Kodiak Defence rifle
  • A 12 Gauge pump action shotgun
  • An altered .22 semi auto rifle
  • Several hundred rounds of ammunition

As a result of the investigation, Tanner Allan Murray (30), Justin David Sinclair (29), Shawna Elizabeth Capot (39) and a youth, all from the Dawson Creek, were charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Possession of controlled substance for purpose of trafficking (x4)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm (x4)
  • Possession of a stolen firearm; and
  • Other firearm-related offences (x8)

Murray was out of jail on probation at the time, which he had already allegedly breached, for charges in Dawson Creek. He is facing new charges, including flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, driving while prohibited and four counts of possession of firearms contrary to an order.

Back in February, Judge Richard Blaskovits sentenced Murray to 300 days in jail after Murray pled guilty to 10 charges.

Murray pled guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer, possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, occupying a vehicle with a known firearm present, flight from police and breaching a number of release orders.

Murray was given lifetime firearms ban and is prohibited from driving for two years after pleading guilty to drinking and driving.

He served 183 days in jail and with credit for time already served and released from the Prince George Regional Correction Centre near the end of March.

Murray and Sinclair were remanded into custody to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on May 21.
