With a snowstorm and cold temperatures hitting the Peace Region on Friday, those without a warm place to go will have options available.
In Dawson Creek, the city is operating an Emergency Warming Centre in partnership with the Nawican Friendship Centre, located at 1401 102 Avenue.
The shelter is activated when the forecast shows -10°C or colder for more than 24 hours.
The warming centre will operate from Friday until December 17 and will be open 24 hours a day.
The city said refreshments will be provided on-site. “This space is here to support those in need during this cold stretch,” officials said.
In Fort St. John, the city does not have an official warming centre.
However, all city buildings are available as warming spaces to shelter in during regular operating hours.
Warm Welcome FSJ is also offering a safe and heated place for those in need twice a week outside the WorkBC office.
Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures between -13 °C and -23 °C over the next week.
The forecast is also showing a chance of snow every day until at least Tuesday.
