DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - A man identified by Dawson Creek RCMP as a repeat violent offender is back in custody after police say he was found carrying a loaded handgun during a traffic stop.

Police say Stacy Laglace was identified by the ‘Violence Suppression Team,’ a program launched in 2024 by the Dawson Creek detachment to target prolific violent offenders.

According to police, officers stopped Laglace on August 17 for an alleged Motor Vehicle Act offence. During the investigation, officers allegedly found a loaded .22-calibre handgun on his person.

The BC Prosecution Service approved charges of carrying a concealed weapon or prohibited device, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm without authorization, breach of a probation order by possessing a weapon, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Laglace was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 28.

The latest arrest comes after a series of previous convictions and charges involving weapons and stolen vehicles.

History of violence

Dawson Creek Police say that in March 2024, an officer found Laglace asleep inside a stolen truck near a firearm, near the Tempo gas station.

When officers attempted to arrest him, investigators alleged he rammed a police vehicle before fleeing toward Farmington.

Surveillance footage later showed a suspect running through a field with what appeared to be a shotgun protruding from a backpack. The RCMP K9 Unit were unable to locate him at the time. He was however arrested at a later date.

In January 2025, Laglace was convicted of driving while prohibited, possession of stolen property, mischief, and two counts of assaulting a police officer stemming from that investigation.

Laglace was also among two suspects charged in April 2025 after RCMP recovered a stolen pickup truck in Kelly Lake.

Investigators alleged officers found a 12-gauge shotgun, body armour, night-vision goggles and a crossbow inside the vehicle.

At the time, Laglace faced multiple charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer and possession of stolen property.

RCMP say the latest arrest demonstrates the ongoing efforts of the ‘Violence Suppression Team’ and front line officers to identify and target repeat violent offenders in the South Peace region.
