The Fort St. John RCMP say they have concluded a drug trafficking investigation following the arrest of two men.

On August 15, police executed a search warrant at a hotel room near 93 Avenue and 100 street in Fort St. John.

Two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested after the search. Police say they attempted to flee in the parking lot of the hotel, causing damage to police vehicles.

Mounties found drugs, cash, and two loaded handguns in the suspects’ vehicle. Police say one of the guns had been converted to fire fully automatic.

“It was very concerning that both males were in possession of loaded firearms, including one capable of automatic fire; this presented a serious risk to the community,” said Sergeant Ian Rissanen of the Plain Clothes Unit.

Police also located a large quantity of drugs, additional cash, and a third firearm in the hotel room of the two men.

Investigators determined the suspects were not from BC and were operating a drug trafficking operation based out of Fort St. John.

Both males were released from custody while awaiting charge approval by the Crown.
