HYTHE, Alta. - Two Grande Prairie men are facing charges after Beaverlodge RCMP say they were caught during a break-in at an oil and gas site near Hythe.
According to police, officers were called at about 3:07 a.m. on October 26 to a report of a break and enter in progress at an oil and gas facility outside Hythe.
When officers arrived, they located two suspects attempting to flee the site in a pickup truck and took both into custody.
While officers were still investigating, RCMP received a second complaint involving another nearby oil and gas site.
Police say further investigation determined the two men arrested were also allegedly connected to that incident.
Officers also recovered what RCMP described as a sizeable amount of stolen property, including tools and copper wire.
RCMP have charged Dylan Sutton, 28, of Grande Prairie, with two counts of break and enter, two counts of possession of stolen property, one count of failing to comply with a probation order and one count of failing to comply with a release order.
A second accused, Jarren Watson, 31, of Grande Prairie, is charged with two counts of break and enter and two counts of possession of stolen property.
Following a judicial hearing, Sutton was remanded into custody. Watson was released and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on November 2.
Beaverlodge RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sgt. Kris Kyle thanked members of the public for reporting suspicious activity and said the investigation is another example of local RCMP efforts to reduce crime in the area.
The charges have not been proven in court.
