WorkSafeBC has issued fines to two separate construction companies in Fort St. John.

A fine of over $37,000 was imposed to D.D.E. Construction LTD. on October 7.

WorkSafeBC said a worker committed a high-risk violation when working on the sloped roof of a four-story residential building.

Inspectors said the worker was wearing a safety harness, but it wasn’t connected to any lifeline, putting him a risk of falling more than 40 feet.

This was the third time the company received a fine from WorkSafeBC since March of 2024.

A second fine of over $26,000 was issued to WCPG Construction LTD. on October 16.

WorkSafeBC said the firm failed to ensure safety at the worksite of a residential construction project.

It said multiple health and safety deficiencies related to fall protection, temporary work platforms, roof truss installation, and work near energized electrical equipment resulted in a high-risk violation.

“In addition, the firm failed to ensure regular inspections were made at intervals to prevent the development of unsafe working conditions,” said the safety agency.
