An information officer with the B-C Wildfire Service says crews are expecting significant rainfall this weekend that could help in suppression efforts for a wildfire of note in the province’s northeast.

Julia Caranci said the Pocket Knife Creek Wildfire burning near Buckinghorse River has grown significantly over the past few days. The B-C Wildfire Service lists the blaze as more than 15-hundred square kilometres in size.

The wildfire service also said the Alces River Wildfire, burning near Goodlow is now ‘being-held.’

An Evacuation Alert is still in effect for the area north of Fort St. John, as the fire has grown to 4,460 hectares in size.

The fire was discovered on June 4th and is thought to be caused by lightning. It is one of about 100 fires burning across BC.
