DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - Residents of Dawson Creek will have two opportunities later this month to hear directly from candidates seeking municipal office as the city prepares for its upcoming civic election.
A Councillor Candidate Debate is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, followed by a Mayoral Candidate Debate on Tuesday, September 29.
Both events will be held at Co-op Mercer Hall in the Ovintiv Events Centre, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and debates beginning at 7 p.m.
Organizers say the debates are intended to give residents a chance to learn more about each candidate’s platform and vision for Dawson Creek, while providing a forum for community members to raise issues important to them.
Voters in Dawson Creek will choose between two mayoral candidates this year. Dwain Dilworth and Kyle MacDonald are seeking the city’s top elected position.
Thirteen city councilor candidates are vying for the six seats on council.
In a Facebook post promoting the events, organizers emphasized the importance of including community voices in discussions that affect local residents.
The message states, “the debates will offer an opportunity for attendees to share their perspectives, lived experiences and concerns.”
Publisher of ‘This Week in Dawson Creek,’ Rob Brown will moderate the debates.
Residents looking to cast a ballot in the municipal election on October 17 will have the opportunity to hear from candidates ahead of voting day and learn more about the issues expected to shape Dawson Creek’s future.
