The District of Tumbler Ridge says it is pausing any plans to transition a temporary memorial at the Roman Walkway, as officials continue to hear from families and the broader community.
The district said the pause takes effect immediately, adding the decision comes as conversations around the memorial remain “deeply emotional” for those impacted.
The memorial relates to the tragic mass shooting on February 10, 2026, that continues to weigh heavily on the community.
The district acknowledged that ongoing discussions may bring up difficult emotions and pointed people toward local supports, including services available through the Tumbler Ridge Strong Centre.
Since the February, the district says individuals, businesses, and volunteers have stepped forward to support the community, describing the response as compassionate and wide-ranging.
No timeline has been given for when discussions about the future of the memorial may resume.
