The MLA for Peace River South is offering some long-term hope to the Tumbler Ridge community regarding the closure of its emergency room.
Larry Neufeld said he’s sensing a change in attitude within the Ministry of Health.
He said he has had numerous conversations with Health Minister Josie Osborne.
Neufeld said he believes the Ministry is reconsidering its position and looking at opportunities to bring after-hours ER coverage back to the town.
However, he insisted that nothing will change in the short term.
“More doctors need to be hired before we can see any change,” Neufeld explained.
He added that Tumbler Ridge has lost two of the 3.5 full-time equivalent physicians in the past 30 days.
