The District of Tumbler Ridge is set to announce the resignation of one of its six council members.
Ken Kilkach submitted his written resignation on January 20th, 2025, according to a Staff Report set to be presented to during a February 3rd meeting.
A secondary report will recommend that the district appoint Adriana Alves as Chief Election Officer and Cheyenne Martin as Deputy Chief Election office to oversee a by-election slated to be held in the coming months.
While an official date has yet to be announced, the Local Government Act requires a by-election to be held within 80 days of appointing a chief election officer.
Kilkach, who will turn 67 this year, took the oath of office in November 2022. An 18-year resident of the community, he was previously employed by the district as a Building Services Manager.
This is a developing story. CJDC-TV has reached out to Kilkach and will continue to provide updates on the by-election as more information becomes available.
