As a heat wave continues to settle over the Peace Region, a number of temperature records have fallen.
According to Environment Canada, Dawson Creek and Chetwynd both reached 32 degrees Tuesday, while Fort St. John and Fort Nelson reached 30 degrees.
The previous record for Dawson Creek was 26 degrees on this day in 1996. Chetwynd beat its record of 28 degrees in 2023 and Fort St. John surpassed its record high of 28 degrees in 1950. Fort Nelson tied its temperature record of 30 degrees in 1950.
On Monday, the daytime high was 41.3 Celsius in Lytton, making it the hottest temperature recorded across the country so far this year.
Lytton was among 16 areas of B-C that set new daily maximum records for the same day, including Whistler, Pemberton, Kamloops, Kelowna and Burns Lake.
Matt Loney, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says the heat expected to ease on Sunday as cooler marine air arrives along the coast, trickles into the Interior and then moves into Northeast BC.
