TAYLOR, B.C. - The District of Taylor is taking the first step toward potentially silencing train whistles at the community’s Alaska Highway rail crossing.
During its July 27 meeting, council approved a resolution directing administration to seek support from the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit to begin the process of applying for train whistle cessation at the crossing.
The decision was one of several items considered during council’s regular meeting.
The move could eventually lead to trains no longer routinely sounding their horns at the crossing, although council’s resolution only initiates the process and does not immediately change current railway safety requirements.
