BC-Wildfire-Service (BC-Wildfire-Service)

The BC Wildfire Service says a wildfire burning south of Kelly Lake in northeast B.C. is now under control, offering some relief to nearby communities.

The Sunderman Creek wildfire broke out on May 14 near Bear Hole Provincial Park, about 35 kilometres east of Tumbler Ridge.

The fire is estimated at 182 hectares in size. According to Drive BC Highway 52 has re-opened to single lane, alternating traffic.

The BC Wildfire Service typically classifies a wildfire as “under control” when it is not projected to grow beyond its existing boundaries, though it may still require ongoing monitoring and suppression work.

Residents in the Peace Region, including Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, are being reminded to stay up to date on road conditions and wildfire activity as the season continues.
