The Summit Creek wildfire burning west of Fort Nelson is now being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The wildfire service said, after almost three weeks of favourable weather including rain, the blaze has mostly been reduced to a smouldering groundfire.
Crews are now able access steep terrain to get to the fire and are continuing to secure the Highway 97 corridor. Firefighters on the ground are being assisted by air tankers and helicopters.
Starting on Wednesday, cooler temperatures are expected to further help fight the fire.
The blaze that started on May 28 has grown to 81,842 and is believed to be human caused.
