A community food drive in Dawson Creek has wrapped up with strong support from residents, collecting nearly 600 pounds of food for St. Mark’s Food Bank.
The “Stuff a Truck” event, held this week outside Save-On-Foods on 8 Street, was organized by Westland Insurance staff alongside volunteers from Inland Auto Centre.
The initiative brought community members together to donate non-perishable food items in support of local families facing food insecurity.
Organizers say the effort exceeded expectations for the first-year event.
In total, the drive collected 587.80 pounds of food, including a significant 285.70-pound contribution donated by local businesses and community members.

The timing of the donation is significant, with St. Mark’s Food Bank reporting a sharp rise in demand in recent weeks, doubling from about 40 to 80 daily visits.
A message posted by the food bank thanked organizers and participants for their support, highlighting the impact of the donations and the collaboration between local businesses, volunteers, and residents.
The food bank also noted that Inland Auto Centre provided the use of the truck, while Save-On-Foods Dawson Creek hosted the event on site.
“This is the first annual food drive in Dawson Creek, and we look forward to next year,” the post noted, adding appreciation for all those who contributed.
Organizers say the strong turnout reflects growing community support for local food security initiatives, and they hope to build on this year’s success in future drives.
