Students in Tumbler Ridge are heading back to class, a little over two weeks since the horrific mass shooting.
In an email sent to parents, School District 59 said phase one of the portable classrooms have arrived.
The district says with help from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, a plan has been created for the gradual return to school by the end of this week. Staff have bee setting up classrooms over the past two days.
On Wednesday, there will be the Zoom sessions for families to help them prepare for returning to school.
At the elementary school, students will return on a shortened day on Thursday and Friday starting at 10:30am and ending at 1:30pm. Counselling services will be supporting students and staff for this return on both days.
As for the high school, students and parents can visit on Thursday to do tours of their new temporary classrooms. Friday will be the first day back to class and will be a shortened day, from 10:30am to 1:00pm.
“We appreciate your patience as we navigate this return with compassion and care for staff, students and families,” said Superintendent Christy Fennell.
Victim Services will be at both locations with their dogs to aid in this transition.
