Stolen bike report leads $1,200 worth of merchandise allegedly stolen from Fort St. John store

FORT ST. JOHN – The Fort St. Jon RCMP say a report of a stolen bike has led to the recovery of $1,200 worth of stolen merchandise.

Mounties detained a female in the area of 98th Street and 104th Avenue on May 23, after she was spotted on bike that had been reported stolen. The woman was arrested after police learned that she had two outstanding warrants.

Police seized a large garbage bag full of unopened merchandise. Officers then attended a nearby store and determined the products, including a large quantity of perfume, had been allegedly stolen from the store.

Constable Chad Neustaeter, the Media Relations Officer for the Fort St. John RCMP said, “In this case a report from a concerned citizen resulted in the recovery of merchandise that had not even yet been reported as stolen and was able to be returned to the business.”

Despite being arrested on the warrants, a judge released the woman from custody pending her next court appearance.

The Fort St. John RCMP is continuing their investigation into the stolen bike and merchandise. They say additional charges are likely to be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service.
