The City of Dawson Creek has renewed once again its State of Local Emergency (SOLE) in response to the ongoing drought situation affecting the city’s water supply.
The city said the declaration was extended on November 11 and will be in place until at least November 25.
The city’s Emergency Operations Centre team was activated in October. The team has been working on obtaining permits to temporarily pump water from the Peace River into the city’s current reservoir.
The original SOLE was first declared on October 13, and was renewed for the first time on October 29, when the city said the Kiskatinaw River was at risk of freezing.
That would’ve made it impossible to draw water from the river and would’ve forced the city to rely solely on its reservoir.
City officials said the Peace River is “a more secure water source” than the current Kiskatinaw River.
Dawson Creek has implemented Stage 3 Water Conservation measures since early September.
