The emergency department at Chetwynd Hospital is currently on diversion due to “staffing challenges.”

ER diversions began at 7:00 a.m. this morning and are expected to continue until 8:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28.

The service interruption was announced via social media at 7:00 p.m. on March 26, 2025.

“Northern Health is continuing to work to fill vacant shifts to allow services to resume earlier, if possible,” stated the health authority.

This marks the first time the ER has been closed in March, following one diversion in February and three diversions, as well as an interruption, in January.

Northern Health is no longer informing residents whether closures are due to a doctor or nursing shortage.

Residents in need of life-saving medical care are advised to call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available hospital.

“Whenever services are interrupted, our partners in patient transfer and local health services are notified, and signage is placed at the hospital to inform patients to call 9-1-1 for transport,” said Northern Health.
