South Peace Soccer Association gets funding boost aimed at easing costs for families

Families in Dawson Creek and the surrounding area could soon find it a little easier to get their kids involved in soccer, after a funding boost for the South Peace Soccer Association.

The organization has been awarded $15,000 through Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, money that will go toward expanding access to youth soccer programs in communities including Dawson Creek and surrounding areas.

Association president Jan Atkinson says the funding is focused on removing financial barriers that can prevent children from participating.

“Securing the Jumpstart grant is a vital milestone for our club. It removes financial barriers so every child in our community has the chance to play, grow and belong on the pitch,” Atkinson said.

The grant will be distributed in two parts, with most of the funding expected this month and the remainder to follow after a community impact report is completed.

The investment comes as the association continues to work through broader financial challenges, while trying to keep programs accessible for families facing rising costs.

Registration fees remain the group’s main source of revenue, and officials say outside funding like this grant is key to helping offset expenses and maintain low-cost programming.

For families in the Dawson Creek area, the added support means more children will have the opportunity to take part in organized sport this season.
