DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Residents across several Peace Region communities looked skyward Monday morning after the sound of powerful jet engines echoed overhead.
The aircraft were part of a planned transit flight by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds as the aerobatic team travelled from Grande Prairie to Victoria, following the Grande Prairie Regional Airshow.
According to the Snowbirds, the team flew over Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, with a fuel stop in Prince George before continuing to Vancouver Island.
Many residents in Dawson Creek reported hearing the jets as they passed over the city.
Similar reports came from Fort St. John, where the distinctive roar of the aircraft drew attention from people at home, at work, and outdoors on the holiday Monday morning.
The Snowbirds thanked spectators in Grande Prairie for attending the weekend airshow and said Monday marked another transit day for the team as it headed west.
The Snowbirds are the Royal Canadian Air Force’s famed aerobatic demonstration squadron, known for performing precision flying displays at airshows and community events across Canada and internationally.
Monday’s flyover was not a scheduled performance, but rather part of the team’s travel route between engagements.
This year marks the final chance to see the Snowbirds and their iconic CT-114 Tutor jets before the team is grounded until the early 2030s for a fleet replacement.
