The Site C Dan project has reached another milestone on the path to completion, as the fifth generating unit is now online.

Five of six generating units are operational, significantly contributing to B.C.’s energy supply.

“Commissioning the fifth generating unit at Site C is a significant step towards securing more clean and affordable electricity for communities, homes and businesses,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.”

The first generating unit came into service in October of 2024 and the second generating unit came into service two months later.

Each generating unit can provide more than 180 megawatts of electricity - or enough to power about 80,000 homes each.

Testing and commissioning work has begun on the sixth generating unit. BC Hydro remains on track to have all six generating units at Site C in operation by the fall of 2025.

“Congratulations to all the workers at Site C on your success achieving this significant milestone,” added Dix.

Construction on the $16-billion megaproject began in July 2015. Once fully operational, Site C will deliver enough clean electricity to power nearly 500,000 new homes, increasing BC Hydro’s electricity supply by eight per cent.
