Mounties in northern British Columbia are investigating after a man was seriously injured in what investigators say was likely a targeted shooting.

Police were initially called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision in the 1300 block of Porter Avenue, near the city’s downtown core, at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigators say the vehicle had crashed into a parked and unoccupied car.

A 37-year-old man was located and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the Prince George RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

“Based on initial information, this was likely a targeted event and there is no increased risk to the general public,” Const. Jenna Moore of the Prince George RCMP said in a statement.

The detachment has not located any suspects in the shooting but is “actively looking to identify any individuals involved,” Moore said.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has video from the area that was taken between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday to contact the Prince George RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-561-3300.

Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477 or online at northernbccrimestoppers.ca.

“You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers,” the news release said. “If you provide information that leads to an arrest or recovery of stolen property, you could be eligible for a cash reward.”
