The Blueberry River First Nations has elected Sherry Dominic as its new Chief.

“I am deeply honoured and very humbled to be entrusted to serve all Blueberry members, and represent the Nation as its new Chief,” Dominic said.

The election ran between January 12 and 14, and the new Chief and council will officially take office on February 11.

The five newly elected councillors are:

  • Councillor Simone Chipesia, for the late Daniel Apsassin family
  • Councillor Dan Crossley, for the late Edward Apsassin family
  • Councillor Jared Davis, for the late Pete Davis family
  • Councillor Troy Wolf, for the late Jack Wolf family
  • Councillor Georgina Yahey, for the late Charlie Yahey & Jack Appaw family

“Each Councillor brings unique experiences, skills, and perspectives that will strengthen our collective leadership and abilities to serve our members,” Dominic said.

Wolf will be serving his third consecutive term on council.

As for Dominic, she becomes Chief after serving four consecutive terms as the representative for the Pete Davis Family.

Wolf and Dominic were two councillors named in a lawsuit filled before the election.

The Apsassin Family and Elders Group initiated the suit over concerns about how the nation was being governed.
