Chetwynd — The North District RCMP have confirmed that the search for James 'Jim' Barnes, an avid hunter who went missing on October 18 in the Groundbirch area, has been suspended.

"The RCMP will continue with their investigation, following up on leads and information received," said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, District Advisory NCO for the North District RCMP, in an email to CJDC-TV.

Barnes' family has been informed of the decision.

Barnes and his dog, Murphy, disappeared while out grouse hunting.

RCMP police dog and air services, along with resources from the BC Wildfire Service, have been assisting search and rescue teams from across the region this week.

"We want to extend a huge thank you for your incredible support and dedication to mutual aid with local volunteers and SAR teams throughout BC," said South Peace Search and Rescue in an update today.

Since being reported missing, Barnes's 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck was found on Ground Birch Road, off 269 Road, with his keys, wallet, backpack, and other valuables inside, along with his rifle.

Barnes is described as a 28-year-old caucasian man, standing six-feet tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds. He has brown hair and a mustache and was last seen wearing a 'TC Energy' ball cap, jeans, and a green or blue hoodie.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is being asked to contact Chetwynd RCMP.
