School District 60 has announced a new superintendent following the retirement of its current leader.
Assistant Superintendent Wade Hart has been named the district’s new superintendent. On July 1, Wade will replace Stephen Petrucci, who is retiring after a 31-year career with SD60.
Originally from Nova Scotia, Hart has 29 years of experience in SD60 schools, teaching math, science and physical education before moving into school leadership roles. He served as vice-principal at North Peace Secondary School and principal at Bert Bowes Middle School.
More recently, Hart spent six years as Director of Instruction before becoming Assistant Superintendent last year.
The Board of Education said it is pleased to welcome Hart to his new role.
“Given his extensive background in school and district leadership, coupled with his dedicated stewardship of Human Resources, we are entirely confident in his ability to serve the evolving needs of our students and staff,” the board said.
Petrucci began his career in the district in 1995, later moving into the board office in 2011 before becoming superintendent in 2019.
Petrucci says he is proud of his work supporting the district and community through the COVID-19 pandemic. During his tenure, Petrucci also supported programs, including French immersion and music.
