FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The Rotary Club of Fort St. John Sunrise is bringing back its annual Oktoberfest celebration next month, with proceeds supporting local youth programming through 4U Youth.
The fundraising event is scheduled for September 19 at the Fort St. John Curling Club, running from 6 p.m. until midnight.
Organizers say the evening will feature food, entertainment, games and craft beverages from several northern B.C. breweries while raising money for the local youth organization.
This year’s beneficiary, 4U Youth, provides a place where young people can connect with trained leaders and volunteers in a supportive environment.
“4U Youth is creating a place where young people know they are welcome and supported, and we are pleased to make their work part of this year’s event,” said Chris Plant, one of the organizers of the event.
Attendees can expect beer from Mighty Peace Brewing Co., Post & Row Brewing Co. and Trench Brewing & Distilling, along with music from DJ Timber LeClerc.
Organizers have also planned a variety of activities, including Hammerschlagen, axe throwing, cornhole, a stein-holding competition, a costume contest and the Chicken Dance.
Tickets cost $50 until September 12 and include dinner, one drink ticket, an Oktoberfest stein and entry into the door prize raffle. The price increases to $60 beginning September 13.
“Oktoberfest is an opportunity for our community to come together, have a great evening and help support an organization doing important work for young people in Fort St. John,” said Plant.
The club is also seeking additional event sponsors and says a safe ride home service will be available until 1 a.m. following the event.
Tickets are available through the event’s online ticket portal, and organizers say additional in-person purchase locations will be announced through the Rotary Club of Fort St. John Sunrise Facebook page.
The Rotary Club of Fort St. John Sunrise, chartered in 2004, is a volunteer service organization that supports community projects through fundraising and service initiatives.
