Residents in the Fort St. John subdivision of Old Fort are being told to ‘shelter in place’ after reports of ground movement.
According to the Peace River Regional District, there has been ground movement where two previous landslides occurred.
PRRD officials say there are currently no evacuation alerts or orders in place. Residents must shelter in place until the road reopens.
The situation continues to be monitored by the province and the PRRD’s Emergency Operations Centre.
The area saw landslides in 2018 and in 2020. As a precaution, the only road in and out of Old Fort has been closed. The Ministry of Transportation is conducting overnight monitoring of ground movement.
Residents are being encouraged to be ready to act if conditions change.
