Authorities are appealing for the public’s help following an incident that led to the Fort Nelson hospital being placed under ‘restricted access’ on Thursday.

The incident, which occurred outside a local business in the 5000 block of 51st Avenue West on January 29th, prompted an immediate response from the police, according to a release.

The RCMP are now seeking witnesses, dashcam footage, and any information from individuals who were in the area between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday as part of an on-going investigation.

Sources tell CJDC-TV that a man was shot in the parking lot of the Nic Mac Building and was rushed to the hospital for injuries.

It’s not clear how the shooting on Wednesday night was connected to the police presence at the hospital on Thursday.

Northern Health advised residents in a social media post of “restricted access” to the general hospital, but said there were no safety concerns for patients and staff. Operations returned to normal shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Laboratory and medical imaging services were unavailable, and all booked appointments were postponed. All affected patients were called to reschedule their appointments, according to the health authority.
