The Dawson Creek RCMP is reminding drivers and parents to be aware behind the wheel, as students return to class next week.
For drivers, the RCMP said school zone speed limits are back in effect at 30 km/h on school days from 8 am to 5 pm.
Police are also reminding drivers to be aware of designated crosswalks, and to stop when a school bus has its stop sign extended. They noted that traffic in both directions must come to a complete stop until the bus lights are off and the stop sign is retracted.
Mounties also ask parents to avoid dropping children on the opposite side of the street from their school if possible.
Police also said to avoid double-parking in non-designated parking areas. They added that parents should be patient and courteous to other drivers and follow the directions of crossing guards.
“When a vehicle is traveling at 30 km/h, it takes 18 meters (59 feet) to come to a complete stop. If you are traveling at 50 km/h, it takes 37 meters (121 feet) to stop,” said the RCMP.
