RCMP investigating threat-related behaviour at North Peace Secondary School

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - Families at North Peace Secondary School have been notified of an RCMP investigation involving what the school district describes as “threat-related behaviour.”

RCMP in Fort St John confirm they are investigating some violent threats made towards one of the students at a local high school.

In a letter sent to parents Monday, school officials said the RCMP recently brought the safety concern to the school’s attention and have since launched an investigation.

As a result, the public may notice an increased police presence on school property while the matter is being addressed.

Mounties began their investigation late in the evening on Sunday, October 4, 2026, when they were advised of them by the victim.

Investigators have determined that both parties are known to one another and have spoken with those involved.

“A thorough investigation has been conducted, and we continue to work collaboratively with the school and the school district to help alleviate concerns among students and families following the reported threats. This matter is being taken very seriously,” states Inspector Jaime Moffat, Officer in Charge of Fort St John RCMP.

Fort St John RCMP officers remained at the school throughout the day to provide support to staff and students as they attended school.

Investigators continue to encourage parents, caregivers, and students to report any threats directly to police. Prompt reporting assists investigators in assessing risks more efficiently, supports public safety efforts, and helps ensure an appropriate and timely response.

The school said the safety and well-being of students and staff remains its top priority and that it is working closely with police while supporting the ongoing investigation.

School officials acknowledged the situation may generate questions and discussion within the community, but urged families to rely on information shared directly by the school and district and to avoid spreading unverified information.

The district said it takes all reports of potential safety concerns seriously and will continue working with law enforcement to maintain a safe learning environment for students and staff.
