PROPHET RIVER, B.C. - The RCMP is investigating an altercation that prompted the temporary closure of Prophet River First Nation offices and programs this week.

RCMP communications officer Jennifer Cooper said police were called to the Prophet River First Nation offices early Tuesday morning following an incident. One man was arrested and remains in custody on unrelated matters.

“There was an incident early in the morning at the PRFN offices where police officers were called to attend. One man was arrested and was held in custody on unrelated matters,” Cooper said.

Police say no one was injured during the altercation and the investigation remains ongoing. RCMP also say there are no concerns for public safety.

Earlier Tuesday, Prophet River First Nation announced the closure of all offices and programs, including a scheduled lands meeting, citing what it described as a safety concern.

The First Nation said the move was a precaution to protect the safety and well-being of members, staff and the community, and confirmed the RCMP had been notified and were involved.

In a message to members, the First Nation asked residents to remain calm, respect the temporary closures and avoid sharing unconfirmed information.
