RCMP discover suspicious wildfires west of Chetwynd

The BC Wildfire Service and the Lake Country Fire Department teamed up in a cross-training project to get the jump on this year’s wildfire season.

CHETWYND - RCMP in Chetwynd are asking for the public’s help after a number of suspicious wildfires were discovered in the Pine Pass area Sunday

Shortly after 11:00 pm, Chetwynd RCMP were advised of numerous fires in the area. Officers patrolled the vicinity and found a fire near Willow Flats.

Evidence of another fire, that had been extinguished, was located 5 km south near Fisher Creek. This fire was approximately 30 meters from the roadway.

Police said these fires appear to have been intentionally set and evidence has been seized for forensic examination. Mounties add that all fires have been extinguished.
