DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) extended the nomination period for the position of Electoral Area E director in the 2026 General Local Election, after no candidates came forward before the nomination deadline.

The regional district says the nomination period will remain open until 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, after receiving no nominations for Electoral Area E before the close of nominations on Sept. 11.

The extension comes as four candidates have already been declared for other electoral areas in the regional district. Those candidates are Reid Graham for Electoral Area B, Brad Speling for Electoral Area C, and Leondard Hiebert and Orval Harris for Electoral Area D.

Just before Monday’s deadline, Richard Nicholls, Julia Nelson, Jason Young and Maureen Ethier announced their intentions to run in Area E.

Prospective candidates interested in running for the Electoral Area E director position can obtain nomination packages through the PRRD website or pick up hard copies at the regional district’s offices in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John during regular business hours on Sept. 14.

The PRRD is encouraging candidates to submit their nomination documents in person at its Dawson Creek office on Alaska Avenue to help ensure applications are received before the deadline.

According to the regional district, additional election information and nomination documents are available through its candidate information resources.

The 2026 General Local Election will determine representation for several electoral areas within the Peace River Regional District.
