The Province of British Columbia is inviting residents to provide input on proposed Crown land transfers involving West Moberly First Nations.

The proposed transfers are part of ongoing agreements intended to address historic treaty obligations to Treaty 8 First Nations in Northeast B.C.

The process includes Treaty Land Entitlement, which is aimed at ensuring First Nations receive lands promised under Treaty 8 more than a century ago.

The Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation says the engagement is designed to share information on the proposed land parcels, including maps and background details.

The province is also seeking public feedback on how the transfers could affect local use and interests, including recreation and hunting.

Officials say if parcels are converted to private or reserve land, public access could be restricted.

A parcel of land near Tumbler Ridge is among several areas under consideration across the region.

An open house will be held June 13 at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre on Front Street. The drop-in session runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a presentation scheduled for 2 p.m.

Residents will be able to review proposed parcel locations, ask questions, and provide input on public access and land use considerations. Light refreshments will also be available.

Other Treaty 8 First Nations, including Blueberry River First Nation and Doig River First Nation, are also included in the broader land transfer agreements.

Some of the proposed transfers are also linked to compensation for environmental impacts associated with the Site C hydroelectric project.
