Northern Health is providing more information Tuesday after an expansion to a long-term care facility in Fort St. John was announced last week.
The expansion to the Peace Villa Residential Care facility at the Fort St. John Hospital will bring 84 new single beds and 30-space adult day program.
Construction is set to being in spring 2027, and the facility is expected to be open for residents at the end of 2030.
“As Fort St. John continues to grow, so does the need for strong, modern long-term care infrastructure,” said Bowinn Ma, Minister of Infrastructure.
Ma calls the project a generational investment. She says the facility is expanding access to quality care for seniors, strengthening health services in the region, and creating meaningful jobs for the community.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Peace River Regional Hospital District are funding the project.
“Ensuring seniors have access to high quality healthcare services, including long-term care, is fundamental to our public healthcare system. This expansion will enable more seniors to access compassionate and dignified care in the community they love, surrounded by the support they need,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Health.
The expansion is part of an overall investment of over 600 additional long-term care beds across Prince George, Smithers, Quesnel, and Fort St. John.
