The Province is extending Emergency Support Services (ESS) for Old Fort residents who have chosen to stay away from the community as ongoing uncertainty surrounding land movement continues.
A renewal session for ESS supports will take place Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pomeroy Sports Centre.
Officials say the supports are intended strictly for residents who are currently displaced from their homes due to the situation in Old Fort.
Access to the community was restored on May 21, allowing residents and service providers to return to the area.
However, evacuation alerts remain in effect as a precaution due the current road surface being temporary.
The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness says residents who choose to return to their homes are no longer considered displaced and therefore become ineligible for ESS supports.
The ministry also warns that continued receipt or application for ESS after returning home would be considered fraudulent.
The Province of British Columbia has not provided a timeline for when residents may be able to safely return on a permanent basis, as geotechnical work in the area continues.
