A proposed wind project expected to be located north of Dawson Creek was discussed at the latest Peace River Regional District board meeting.

Renewable Energy System (RES) presented the Sweetwater Wind Project.

The site would be located 20 kilometers north of Dawson Creek and would include 25 to 36 wind turbines. The land was fully secured last month.

A transmission line would be built to connect the wind farm to the existing BC Hydro grid.

RES is currently working with First Nations as they will hold 25 to 51 percent equity in the project.

It said around 350 jobs would be created during peak construction, as local contractors would be hired.

The company will submit the project into BC Hydro’s 2025 Call for Power in January 2026.

If selected, RES would receive a 30-year Electricity Purchase Agreement.

According to the project timeline, construction could be completed in four to seven years.
