Property owners in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John are being reminded they have just days left to pay their municipal taxes before penalties take effect.
Both cities say the deadline to pay 2026 property taxes is July 2, with a 10 per cent penalty applied to outstanding balances after that date.
In Dawson Creek, the city is urging residents to ensure payments are received on time, noting tax notices were mailed out in mid-May.
Officials say payments can be made online or in person, but residents should keep in mind that the provincial Home Owner Grant must be claimed separately.
Fort St. John is echoing the same message, warning that some payment methods, including bank transfers and electronic funds transfers can take up to three business days to process. The city says mailed cheques are not recommended this close to the deadline.
City officials in both communities are also reminding residents that municipal offices will be closed on July 1 for Canada Day, which could affect last-minute payments.
Anyone who hasn’t received a tax notice or needs assistance is encouraged to contact their local finance or tax department directly.
Residents who qualify for the Home Owner Grant must apply through the Province of B.C. before the deadline to avoid losing the benefit.
With the deadline approaching, municipalities are encouraging property owners across the Peace Region to act quickly to avoid added costs.
