TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — Western Hockey League action is coming to the Peace Region this fall, with two preseason games set for Tumbler Ridge.
The District of Tumbler Ridge and the local WHL host committee say the Edmonton Oil Kings and Prince George Cougars will face off in a pair of exhibition games at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre Arena.
Games are scheduled for Friday, September 4 and Sunday, September 6, offering local fans a rare chance to see WHL teams compete in their own community.
The event is being organized through a partnership involving the district, the Tumbler Ridge Minor Hockey Association, curling club, figure skating club and Oldtimers Hockey group.
Mayor Darryl Krakowka says the games are an exciting opportunity for the community and showcase what can be achieved when local organizations and volunteers work together.
Organizers say the games are expected to draw visitors from across northeast B.C. and Alberta, bringing both economic and community benefits while highlighting Tumbler Ridge as a destination for sport and recreation.
Details on ticket sales and additional event information are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
