PPRD asks Jackfish residents to weigh in on future of community hall

Residents in the Jackfish area are being invited to review the results of a recent building assessment and share their thoughts on the future of the Jackfish Community Hall.

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) says the assessment found the structure to be generally sound, but in need of significant repairs.

The hall, located on Old Jackfish Road, has been closed since 2022 due to safety concerns following earlier assessments and water damage caused by a heating failure.

As part of the engagement process, the PRRD is hosting a community meeting on May 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Chetwynd Recreation Centre. Residents can also provide feedback through an online survey, open from May 1 to May 15.

Information shared through the meeting and survey includes estimated repair costs, potential tax impacts, and options for whether to proceed with repairs or not. Community feedback will help inform a recommendation to the PRRD Board.

If there is clear community support, provincial approval, and board approval, the project could move toward a public referendum as early as October 2026, giving residents the final say on whether to fund repairs and ongoing operation of the facility through a new taxation service area.
