Powder King Mountain Resort is also feeling the impact of extreme weather in Northeast BC.

However, the resort said it is ready to welcome skiers and snowboarders again Friday morning.

The resort was unable to open on Thursday due to “dropping temperatures and high winds.”

The ski hill is located in the Pine Pass area, where several snowfall warnings were issued this week.

The highway leading to the resort was shut down for close to 24 hours over the past couple of days due to avalanche danger.

The resort said the safety of visitors is its top priority, which is why the hill remained closed on Thursday.

It said workers had to do a lot of digging over the past 48 hours, but Powder King Mountain is now ready to welcome visitors.

Guests were able to check-in at the hostel starting at 3 pm on Thursday, and the lifts will begin spinning at 9 am Friday.

The resort said a weather update and the groomer’s report will be posted to the hill’s website ahead of opening.

Powder King Mountain resort began its season on November 27.

As for Bear Mountain Ski Hill, Paul Gevatkoff, president of the Dawson Creek Ski and Recreation Association, told CJDC-TV News it was too cold to open this week.

He said his team is nearly finished the snowmaking process, and the hill can open once warmer temperatures return to the city.
