A potential sale of the shuttered Canfor mill in Fort St. John is being negotiated. A spokesperson for Canfor said the transfer of the site should move forward quickly, after an agreement is reached.

The company is currently negotiating the sale of the mill with an undisclosed company. Canfor said nothing has been finalized concerning the deal.

Sources say the sale may involve dismantling the mill. The company was unable to comment on the speculation due to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in place.

When asked who the other party was is the negotiations, the company was unable to comment, once again referring to the NDA.

Production at the facility ended on December 20, 2024, with only a small number of employees staying on to maintain and secure the site.

If finalized, the deal could mark a significant milestone for Fort St. John and the broader Peace Region, where the mill has been a longstanding part of the local forestry sector.
